FAQS

HOW DO I ENROL? HOW DO I PAY?

All class enrolments and trial classes can be booked directly through our booking system Pembee, which is integrated into this website. If you have any questions or issues, please email us at admin@BeXDcreate.com or give our friendly team a call on 0459058721.

DO YOU TEACH PRIVATE LESSONS?

BeXD Create does not directly teacher private lessons, however many of our teachers also teach lessons independently. Feel free to send us an email with what you're looking for and we will refer you onto a teacher.

CAN I VOLUNTEER OR DO WORK EXPERIENCE AT BeXD?

Generally no, but in special circumstances, maybe.

Our programs are designed to be run by Industry Professionals and all roles are balanced between our Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers and Admin Team. So that we can maintain quality and safety throughout every element of our programs,  facilitating volunteers can be tricky.

In our holiday programs, we may have capacity to facilitate an intern interested in the behind-the-scene production elements of a show (props, sets, costumes, lighting, projections, sound & microphones). Please reach out to us at Admin@BeXDcreate.com and we will let you know if we have capacity to facilitate work experience. You must be aged 16+ to apply and if you are over 18, you will need a BlueCard and reference to be considered for any volunteer or intern positions.

HOW ARE CASTING DECISIONS ARE MADE FOR HOLIDAY PRODUCTIONS?

Firstly, we are an educational organisation and we will not cast the same student in the lead role every time. Even the most experienced students are in ensemble sometimes and brand new students can get cast as leads. We balance putting on a high quality show with making sure everyone has equal opportunity to learn and shine.

Casting is hard. We do the best we can to be fair and cast students who can do the role well, while challenging but not overwhelming you with a role that's outside your current skills. We can't give everyone a lead role every time, but we will do everything we can to make sure everyone has equal opportunity to learn, have fun, be challenged and have a great week!

You must submit an audition on time, and in line with the audition brief, to be considered for lead roles.

WHAT INFLUENCES CASTING DECISIONS?

We can usually cast a show 4 or 5 different ways, so just because you don't get cast as a lead this time, that doesn't mean you've been overlooked or we don't think you're capable. We watch, discuss and reconsider every audition we receive multiple times.

We cast based on 4 things:

1. Did you follow the audition brief and submit your audition on time?

2. Do we believe, based on your audition, that you can do the role well from a singing, acting and dancing perspective? We want to challenge you, but not overwhelm you with something that is too hard to learn in one week.

3. Do we believe this role is the best opportunity for you to learn and develop your skills. For example, you might be very capable of playing the lead in this show, but we think the lead role in the show we're doing in September would be an excellent challenge for you. We're unlikely to cast you as the lead twice in a row, so we might put you in ensemble this time to help work on your dance and harmony skills.

4. Does the cast make sense? For example, we're unlikely to cast a 10-year-old Peter Pan opposite a 16-year-old, or 6-year-old Wendy. There's nothing you can do about this, that's just how this industry works. We will not make casting decisions based on gender or race unless it is specifically relevant to the character, but we do consider age and height when deciding on a congruent cast.

I WAS A LEAD LAST TIME, AND NOW I'M IN EMNSEMBLE...

In our experience as teachers and performers ourselves, you can learn more and have more fun in the ensemble than as a lead.

In ensemble, you can learn more about choreography, moving sets, costumes changes, singing harmonies, developing your singing technique, playing multiple characters and helping behind the scenes. As a lead, often you only have time to learn your lines and songs - there isn't much room for skill development. Both are fun, both are great, and your teaching team put in a huge amount of effort to make both super worthwhile. We make sure our teaching team is big enough that every ensemble character receives individualised coaching on their singing, acting and dance the same way leads do.

If you've been with us for a while, have been a lead before and we've cast you as ensemble for this show, we've made that decision intentionally and with consideration for what's best for your development. If you are still waiting for your first lead role and struggling with feeling disappointed, consider reaching out to us to see how we came to this decision and create a roadmap forward together. If you're goal is to play a lead in a show, we want to help you get there but we want to make sure you're ready and that it's a positive experience.

Feel free to reach out at anytime for feedback or with questions., we're always happy to elaborate on a casting decision.

MY CHILD IS TOO YOUNG OR TOO OLD

Our age ranges are a guide. Depending on your child’s maturity, focus and interest in drama, musical theatre, dance and/or singing, they may fit into an older class or a younger class. Please be aware that older classes will cover more mature content and will be paced for an older cohort. Give us a call on 0459058721 or email admin@BeXDcreate.com with specifics and we can help guide you to the right class.

MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS, IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE?

Neurodiverse children are very welcome in our classes. We have multiple teachers in every room to offer support to any children who need it. Our classes, with the exception of our K-Pop Dance Classes, are suitable for most physical disabilities, please send us an email to double check anything specific at admin@BeXDcreate.com.

DO YOU OFFER HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

Yes! We run workshops every school holidays including Acting for Stage & Screen, Musical Theatre Bootcamp and Musical Production Workshops. You can have a look HERE or follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date with upcoming workshops.

WHY SHOULD I ENROL MY CHILD IN A BeXD CLASS?

Singing, Musical Theatre and Acting classes offer numerous benefits for children (and adults!), including improved self-confidence, communication skills, creative expression, teamwork, and awareness. These classes provide a platform to develop all of these skills along with learning performance skills and fostering a love for the arts.

CAN ADULTS WITH NO PRIOR PERFORMING EXPERIENCE ENROL IN CLASSES?

Absolutely! Our classes welcome students of all experience levels, including and especially adults with no prior singing, dance or acting experience. We will support and guide you to discover the beauty of your unique voice, build confidence and find your community.

CAN PARENTS OBSERVE CLASS?

We'll be honest, this one is tricky.

The basic answer is yes, of course you can stay and watch if you feel this is best for your child. HOWEVER, we have found (quite overwhelmingly) children are more distracted, more shy, and less likely to fully engage with class if a parent is in the room watching.

So here's our rule...

Yes you are more than welcome to stay, BUT the instructors will ask that you participate in class. We've found that parents sitting and watching makes shy kids more shy, and easily distracted kids more distracted, but if these parents engage in the class as students they can be there to support kids when needed but also are a positive role model for how to engage in class.

WILL STUDENTS BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITIES TO PERFORM?

Yes. All our kids and teens classes perform in end-of-term showcases in their final week of each term for friends and family. Sometimes this showcase is a work-in-progress performance that is just our chance to share what we're working on, and other times we're aiming for a more polished show.

For all our classes, we put on an end of year concert where all classes and holiday workshop casts come together to celebrate our year of learning and perform some favourite from throughout the year.

We also run a Musical Production Holiday Workshop in the January, June and September school holidays which provides opportunities for students aged 6+ to perform in a full-scale musical.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE BeXD CREATE

Two Reasons.

1. We prioritise joy and confidence. Some training organisations will prioritise perfection and skill development at the expense of a student's mental health, self-esteem and overall wellbeing. This is one of the reasons BeXD Create was founded - to provide a different approach. We provide acting, singing or musical theatre training in a format that makes you love it MORE every day, makes you feel great about yourself and empowers students to forge their own creative path, whether that's as a career or as a hobby.

2. Our lead teachers are Industry Professionals. If you or your child has an interest in a career as an Actor, Singer or Musical Theatre Performer, our teachers have been there, and most are currently there. Our teachers have worked at Disney, on West End, appear frequently in QPAC shows, work in workshops for new Australian Musicals, act professionally in feature films, are published playwrights, work as professional children's performers, or are working Recording Artists. We know our stuff AND we walk the walk. Want to know about professional auditions - we probably did one in the last fortnight. Want to know more about Agents - we have one and we'll tell you all about it. Want to know how feasible a career in the Arts is? We'll share our experience, the good and the challenging, with you.

WHAT IF I MISS A CLASS/CLASS IS CANCELLED

You can read our full cancellation policy on our booking system (CLICK HERE TO READ OUR CANCELLATION POLICY).

Basically, we want to be as flexible as we can, whilst still ensuring we can pay our staff and cover our costs.

If you know you are going to be away for a week when you book a term, get in contact with us and as long as the class isn't full (e.g. you'll be taking a spot someone else would fill), we're happy to adjust your term invoice.

Adults are able to book in for only the weeks you are attending, as long as your class is not full.

If you are away unexpectedly due to illness or other factors, we unfortunately are not able to provide a refund as we will have created resources, planned and staffed based on the expected number of students.

If we cancel a class - due to staff unavailability or a weather event, a credit or refund will always be provided.

DO YOU OFFER SIBLING DISCOUNTS OR MULTIPLE CLASS PACKAGES?

No, we're not able to offer discounts for enrolling multiple students, or if you enrol one students across multiple classes. We also do not offer early bird discounts or have sales on our classes.

We try to keep these classes as affordable as we possibly can and therefore we don't have the leeway to offer discounts.
