Class Description

Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture Book by Kevin Del Aguila Original Music and Lyrics by George Noriega & Joel Someillan Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favourite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. DATES: 24th - 29th June 2024 TIMES: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 4:30PM Saturday, 8AM - 12:30PM WHERE: Riverside Conference Centre, Chelmer COST: $460 WHO: Ages 6+ (all experience levels welcome) SHOW: Saturday 29th June @ 10:30AM, followed by pizza party 11:30am - 12:30pm WHAT TO EXPECT: Students will spend their days working with their scripts, teachers and cast mates to learn lines and develop their characters. We’ll have music rehearsals where students won’t just learn the notes and lyrics, but will learn about voice technique, harmonies and projection. Students will work with their choreographer to do daily stretches and warmups and learn simple and fun movement for the show. A few featured dancers will learn some more advanced choreography. We’ll even work as a team to create some magical costumes and set pieces! The venue hosts many breakout spaces so our team of passionate and experienced teachers can provide optimal learning environments for the different age groups and skill levels in the cast. The teachers also will perform in a special showcase and hold a Q&A session for students about the theatre and music industry during one of the lunchtime - this is a great opportunity for our older students who are interested in a career in the arts to ask any questions. We’ll have morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea breaks each day (food is not provided). The show will be on Saturday morning at 10:30AM complete with lights, microphones, sets and costumes. We then invite cast, friends and family to join us for a little pizza party in the foyer to debrief after the show (11:30am - 12:30pm). Auditions for lead roles are due Tuesday 18th June. The audition pack link will be sent to you upon signing up for the workshop. TICKETS on sale at the start of the workshop week for family and friends.
